“Can you just give me an estimate over the phone?”

We get asked this question quite often, and we want to assure you we’re not trying to be dismissive in answering “no.” Though the answer is simple, there is more understanding to be able to give an accurate estimate.

Here are four reasons why Aire Serv, as well as other contractors, don’t quote over the phone.

1) Thoroughness is important

Even if you are able to give us a perfect description of your home and current system, we have found things different than the actual description. There may be things we see which aren’t noticeable to the average homeowner and we cannot ask every question to understand your current configuration.

When we come into your home and inspect your system, we are able to understand your current system and what it may take to give you exactly what you are looking for. Today’s systems are very different than systems which were installed ten plus years ago and by getting eyes on the system, we are able to understand your needs and give you the best service possible.

2) Each home is unique

Evey home is unique in the way it was built and the condition it is today. A home built twenty years ago may have had minimal shading so it may have needed a more powerful system than a home with more shading (trees provide a level of shade which can help reduce energy consumption and, in some cases, we have found we can use a less powerful system than is currently being used.

3) We want our quote to be accurate (and so do you)

We have found there are details which are overlooked by homeowners, either because they may see them every day and not realize it or the homeowner really isn’t a trained professional. Our Home Comfort Designers are trained to know what they are looking for to provide the most accurate quote for what your system needs. There may also be options to help improve the energy efficiency of your current system or improve the indoor air quality in your home.

And what may seem like a bit issue of having to replace your current system, may be a minor repair which could be fixed without compromising your home’s comfort, and save you money in the long run.

4) We want to give you a fair quote

We don’t want to undersize or oversize your system. There is a right size system for every home and a desired energy efficiency goal. It is difficult for us to be precise when it comes to quoting a new or replacement HVAC system without actually seeing the home. By inspecting your home, we can perform multiple check points to give you an accurate estimate.

These checkpoints include taking the measurements of the home, perform heat load tests, checking your window placements, checking the natural or built in shading of the home, as well as the position of the sun in relation to your home and windows. Most importantly, we can’t quote the right size system for your home (and there are many sizes.) We don’t want to charge you more for an oversized system and we don’t want to charge you less for you to have an undersized system which will not perform the job adequately. Having the right sized system for your home just makes sense and it allows us to give you the fairest estimate.

In the end……

We really do care about our customers and their homes. Having our customers pleased with any of our services or repairs we provide and/or any final system installation is our number one goal. We know we must be thorough, accurate, and fair to ensure you are 100% satisfied in your final decision making.

Having our Home Comfort Designers or one of our Senior Professional Technicians meet with you at your home to provide an on-site estimate allows you to speak to someone face to face. It allows you to ask questions, get all the answers you are looking for, know we understand, and that we will provide the best solution for your home comfort needs.
